REPORTER Full-time, permanent

Are you a breaking news specialist? Someone who can digest, synthesize and report news accurately, quickly and in an engaging manner? Someone who thinks of deadlines in terms of minutes, not hours or days, and who doesn’t bat an eyelash at producing several quick news stories a day.

The Montreal Gazette, a daily English newspaper and website based in the best news city in Canada is looking for a full-time breaking news reporter to join its newsroom.

As a breaking news reporter, you will strive to make the Montreal Gazette the first media outlet in the city to deliver important developing stories to our audiences at montrealgazette.com and on our social media channels. You’ll get the news out first, but you’ll always get it right, too. You’ll know who to reach out to when news breaks, what information you need, and how to quickly and concisely report that news, and then build on it through your reporting.

Daily newsroom experience (at least two years), demonstrated ability in covering breaking news, familiarity with working in a CMS and distributing breaking news via social media channels are essential for this position. Bilingualism (English and French) and knowledge of Montreal, its geography, its key players and organizations, and its political, social and economic climate are also musts.

While we’re emphasizing the need for nimbleness in this role, we’re also looking for a thoughtful journalist who, when the opportunity arises, can also deliver impactful and ambitious journalism that has been the hallmark of the Montreal Gazette since its founding almost 243 years ago.

Does that all sound like you? Then we really want you on our team. We are also keenly aware of the need for newsrooms to diversify their staffs, so we encourage applicants from underrepresented backgrounds and communities to apply for this position.

In order to be considered for this position, send your resume, contact information and samples of published work to: HR@montrealgazette.com by November 6, 2020.

JOURNALISTE

Temps plein, permanent
