CBC News is at the forefront of local digital and broadcast journalism in Montreal.

At CBC Montreal, we gather, produce and broadcast news in Quebec for CBC Radio, CBC Television and CBC.CA/Montreal.

We are currently seeking one intern for the Winter 2024 session, to work in Montreal with CBC current affairs and digital.

Internships Goals

You will have the opportunity to gain practical experience at CBC in Montreal.

You will work as a junior member of the CBC digital team for 5 weeks.You will also work as a researcher on Daybreak (3 weeks) and Let’s Go (2 weeks ). You will learn how to pitch stories, write scripts, and write for the web.

Requirements

•• 160 hours of for credit service. Approximately 16 hours per week for 10 weeks in CBC News Montreal.This amounts to 3 credits at Concordia.

• Note – Students undertaking these internships are not excused from classes or other courses

• This internship is offered under the JOUR 508 -Internship/Independent Study course, for a total of three credits. Students must obtain departmental approval to enrol in this program.

CIM Magazine Paid Editorial Internship

CIM Magazine, which covers the latest advances in ideas, trends and technology in the Canadian mining industry, is offering a 16-week paid internship opportunity for upper-year students and recent graduates. The intern will work remotely from home and have the chance to contribute to all aspects of magazine editorial, in both print and online.  

During the internship, the intern will be required to write our weekly newsletter, news articles, conduct interviews, attend regular story meetings and participate in the magazine production process (source photos, proofread the issue and other related tasks).    

This is an opportunity for students to work with a B2B National Magazine Award-winning publication, gain valuable experience in the journalism industry, expand their portfolio and develop skills through on-the-job training.

About us: 

The print edition of CIM Magazine is published by the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM) eight times per year. Each edition is distributed to more than 8,000 CIM members and at industry-related events and conferences throughout the year. The team prides itself on producing high-quality journalism written by seasoned journalists. 

Responsibilities

The intern will work closely with the Section Editor and have three main writing responsibilities: 

Internship requirements: 

  1. Articles for the news section of the CIM Magazine website
  2. The weekly news recap, which is posted to the CIM Magazine website and emailed to our newsletter list
  3. The front-of-book section of the magazine, which includes news, new products and a profile or analysis piece
     
  4. The intern will work 35 hours per week for 16 weeks, with the possibility of extension. Due to the remote aspect, technical requirements are a phone, internet and a computer with camera and microphone. 

All applicants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents.

Qualifications:  

  • Strong news writing, editing and proofreading experience  

·         Exceptional communication, organizational and interpersonal skills

·         Proficient interviewing skills 

·         Adept at Canadian Press style 

Our ideal candidate is smart, professional, passionate about the quality of their work, interested in learning about the mining industry and is a self-starter with a reputation for writing quality content on tight deadlines.

Compensation: 

$15.25/hr (or provincial minimum wage)

Pitch and write weekly articles about the Concordia’s student body’s  events and artists, including:

News stories of interest to Concordia Fine Arts students

Concordia-related events around Montreal

Columns or op-eds on art-related topics

Produce stories with in-depth art analysis 

Collaborate with creative team on all visuals and projects related to your section

Develop and manage a weekly arts newsletter

Manage contributors and pitches for the arts section

Edit all stories in the arts section

Photographer(s)

Capture photos for stories, photo essays, and other multimedia projects

Format photos for both print and digital publication

Attend events such as sports games, protests, and art shows

Communicate promptly and clearly with the Photo Editor and other team members

Prepare pitches for the event that you are not tasked with external assignments on any given week

Must have your own camera
