The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for managing all elements of volunteering at CJLO 1690AM. This involves assessing and meeting the station’s needs through the recruitment, placement and retention of volunteers.

Deadline: Sept. 3rd.

Duties and Responsibilities:
● Recruitment and selection of prospective volunteers
● Assessing the need for volunteers specific to each department (Production, Programming, etc)
● Planning how and where to recruit volunteers and posting adverts
● Planning and coordinating intake interview with volunteers
● Completing periodic check-ins with volunteers
● Planning for volunteer retention and replacement
● Developing an orientation kit, volunteer handbook or introductory programs
● Evaluating the orientation program
● Presenting or managing the orientation for all new starters
● Arranging training and education opportunities
● Developing ways to recognize and reward volunteer efforts
● Managing volunteer communications such as social functions, newsletters or social
media
● Looking after the volunteer database and records


Our Ideal Candidate is:
● Self-motivated and can take initiative; can analyze and assess what needs to be done
and always thinks of new ideas to improve operations
● Proficient at time-management, delegation, and balancing multiple tasks at once
● Effective and prompt communicator – can always respond in an appropriate amount of
time and handle timely and urgent requests
● Passionate about Montreal’s music, arts, and culture scenes
● Experience and/or familiarity with campus-community radio is considered an asset
● Previous experience at volunteer management and coordination is an asset

CJLO is hiring a news director!

The News Director is responsible for managing all elements of news at CJLO 1690AM. This involves training and managing news volunteers, ensuring quality of weekly news and community calendar broadcasts, and doing original reporting as needed.
Deadline: September 3rd.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
News Reporting:
● Ensuring the quality of our daily newscasts
● Writing and editing news scripts for volunteers before newscasts are produced (and as needed)
● Finding leads for stories, accepting pitches from contributors, and keeping on top of local Montreal stories
● Producing and reporting original content and specialty broadcasts, including but not limited to election coverage, protests, and relevant university events
● Assisting full time staff with longer form content for the morning show
● Keeping regular contact with the Station Manager and Program Director regarding the news department Community Calendar:
● Writing community calendar script for volunteers
● Ensuring weekly community calendar broadcast is produced and aired by Monday afternoon
● Keeping on top of local and university events
● Working with the volunteer coordinator to ensure CJLO newsletter is up to date and relevant Volunteer Recruitment & Training:
● Planning how and where to recruit news volunteers and posting adverts
● Conducting outreach to relevant university departments for volunteer recruitment
(Journalism, communications, etc.)
● Helping news volunteers feel welcome and supported
● Developing and managing training manuals, procedures and standards for volunteers
● Training volunteers in the news department tasks, which includes writing, voicing, and
producing
● Planning and goal setting for volunteers
● Suggesting news stories for volunteers
● Following up with volunteers and providing feedback on their newscasts

CBC’s Indigenous Pathways to Journalism Development Program

We are looking for a Reporter/Editor to be based in Thompson, Manitoba. This is a great opportunity as the person will be able to touch on everything related to journalism such as video editing and reporting. It is a very independent role where the person will have editorial freedom and we are looking for someone interested in shooting and producing videos for online and social. We also want someone who has a deep knowledge and connection to Canada’s Indigenous community.
