Internship Summary
CityNews Montreal is seeking a 2nd or 3rd year Journalism or Communications students, or Grad Diploma students to intern for Winter and Summer 2024.
The successful candidate will be a dynamic person with strong writing skills, understanding local news around them, basic knowledge of television production procedures and equipment, strong social media skills as well as a genuine interest in all things Montreal.
As our intern, you will join the team who prepares and delivers Montreal’s most dynamic
nightly newscast. You’ll work alongside our talented professionals, for a hands-on experience that will enhance your studies.

Main Responsibilities
 Write scripts and research ideas;
 Book interviews;
 Assist with the research and production of topical ‘streeters’ to support current affairs
segments;
 Prepare and post materials to website and social media;
 Go out on the road with reporters and shadow, work together, and
 Other duties as assigned


Qualifications
 Be enrolled in the 2nd year (or beyond) of an undergraduate or graduate program in
broadcasting, journalism, communications or other related fields;
 Be eligible for university credit for this internship;
 Be seeking a placement under a formal, credited internship program;
 Be available weekdays or weekends for day/evening shifts;
 Excellent command of written English and the ability to speak/read both English and French;
 Highly motived with proven multi-tasking and time management skills. Able to work in a fastpaced environment;
 Experience posting to various social media platforms; and
 Basic knowledge of video editing and TV production experience will be considered assets

  • Experience with live news and field production are assets

  • Organizes material and writes engaging, relevant and concise news stories under tight deadlines according to prescribed editorial style and format standards
  • Presents scripted and unscripted coverage live on-air and on other media platforms from remote locations and/or in-studio environment – including LIVE on social media platforms
  • Generates compelling story ideas and knowledgeable contacts and responds to breaking news situations quickly and accurately
  • Generates compelling multi-media content
  • Posts to digital throughout the day and writes articles for web content
  • Be fluent in social media trends with personal accounts and the knowledge to use it to generate stories and ideas

CityNews is seeking Indigenous journalists* to join an all-Indigenous news team spanning the country. Be part of an Indigenous-led team charting its own path and building something great!  

Working in our television newsrooms, you will bring an Indigenous lens to reporting on all local issues and topics, as well as focusing on storytelling related to Indigenous communities and peoples.

What you will do/Your purpose…  

  • – Generate story ideas and produce television news content for our newscasts and all-news streaming channels.
