The Investigative Journalism Foundation is looking for Summer Reporter Interns.

We offer a $10,000 stipend for 16 weeks beginning in May, and the work can be done remotely from any location.

We are looking for applicants who are passionate about data-driven and investigative journalism. It would be greatly appreciated if you shared this opportunity with your students and recent graduates, and encouraged them to apply before the May 3 deadline. Interested in learning the ropes of photojournalism? Do you want to shadow a photojournalist in their daily assignments and ask them all the questions in the world?

This opportunity is for you! In March, selected candidates will each spend two days at La Presse and work with the newsroom’s photojournalists.

Opportunity is primarily open to Grad Dip students. Exceptions can be made for talented undergraduates about to complete their B.A.

To apply you need to have a functional command of French* and a demonstrated interest in photojournalism.

The selection committee will send the names of shortlisted candidates to La Presse. Shadowing is expected to take place in March.

CIM Magazine, which covers the latest advances in ideas, trends and technology in the Canadian mining industry online and in print eight times a year, is offering a four-month paid internship for upper-year students and recent graduates.

The intern will work remotely from home and have the chance to contribute to all aspects of magazine editorial, in both print and online. (Interns living in Montreal can choose to come into the office once a week using a desk booking system; interns living in Calgary can choose to attend in-person meetings with their supervisor).   

There are no boring assignments at CIM Magazine – the mining industry is rapidly experiencing change, from its technology to the people who makes up its workforce. Interns get to write about what interests them.

Assignments have included:

• Advances in battery technology
• Scientific breakthroughs
• ESG obligations
• The expansion of EDI in mining
• The importance of Indigenous relations
• Mental health in mining

By the end of the internship, our interns graduate to freelancing for CIM Magazine and have leveraged their experience with us for a variety of exciting roles, from battery metals analyst to vice-president of publications.

The Opportunity
The intern will work closely with the Section Editor and have the opportunity to:

1. Conduct interviews, write and research articles for the news section of the CIM Magazine website, an authoritative source for high-quality mining news in Canada
2. Write the weekly news recap, which features the latest mining news from the industry and CIM Magazine (and has an above average industry open rate of 43%)
3. Contribute to the front-of-book section of the magazine, which includes news, new products and the mental health in mining series
4. Participate in regular story meetings and pitch their own ideas

Internship requirements: 

The intern will work 35 hours per week for four months, with the possibility of extension. Due to the remote aspect, technical requirements are a phone, internet and a computer with camera and microphone. 

All applicants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents.

Compensation: 

$18.50/hour

Qualifications:  

• Strong news writing, editing and proofreading experience  
• Exceptional communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
• Proficient interviewing skills 
• Adept at Canadian Press style

Narcity is offering the first-of-its-kind CJF-Narcity News Creator Fellowship. This is a PAID learning opportunity geared towards building the future of local news in Canada.

Internship Summary
The Hockey News Women’s is seeking Journalism or Communications student(s) to intern during the inaugural 2024 PWHL season. The successful candidate(s) require(s) strong writing skills, and in person communication skills to conduct interviews. We also encourage those interested in photojournalism, multimedia journalism including video, to apply. If you can cover the news, and tell stories, we’d love to work with you to help hone your craft and build valuable industry experience and credentials.

Main Responsibilities

• Write game recaps, interview coaches and players at the arena
• Attend practices and/or games when possible
• Take video clips of interviews to be used when applicable
• Research and write compelling stories about the PWHL’s athletes and staff as both people and players.
