  2. We’re ALSO hiring a journalist focused on hosting and script preparation, but also assisting with event coverage and producing. 20 hours/week, $22-26/hour.

Video Journalist at CUTV (position #1)

Community University Television—Concordia is hiring a Video Journalist. Reporting to the Executive Director, and collaborating with the Local 514 team, the Video Journalist will facilitate live and recorded coverage of events, recording, but also researching, chasing and assisting with post-production.

The successful applicant will demonstrate experience in some of the following: creating videos, producing journalism, video editing software, and grassroots organizations or social movements in Montreal. A flexible schedule—specifically to accommodate some evening events—is a core part of the role.

The job posting will be open until the position is filled, but applicants are strongly advised to apply by 2pm ET on August 15th, and will ideally be available to start work in late August or early September.

Community University Television (CUTV) is Canada’s oldest student TV station and operates as a non-profit fee-levy organization. Video Journalist core responsibilities:

  • Advance-produce segments (prepare research, context, script, questions)
  • Operate camera during live events or recordings
  • Assisting with technical production of livestreams (switching, monitoring, directing)
  • Cover some evening events—1-2 per week
  • Video editing and preparation of content for different platforms

Qualifications and experience:

  • Excellent verbal English communication skills
  • Training in, or experience producing, journalism
  • Involvement with social movements, labour organizing, or other activism
  • Proficiency with MacOS, Google Drive and audio and video editing software
  • Experience in video/audio production
  • Ability to work autonomously

Assets:

  • Fluency in spoken and written French, or other languages commonly spoken in Montreal
  • University degree in journalism, communications, film production, or another related field
  • Current student or recent graduate of Concordia university

  • Compensation $22-26 per hour at 20 hours per week. 
  • This position is covered by CUTV’s group health insurance plan.

Journalist and Show Host  at CUTV (position #2)

Community University Television—Concordia is hiring a Journalist and Show Host. Reporting to the Executive Director, and collaborating with the Local 514 team, the Journalist and Show Host will prepare scripts, chase and interview guests, but also research, and assist with post-production.

The successful applicant will have an engaging on-screen presence and demonstrate experience in some of the following: conducting interviews, scriptwriting or video production, journalism, and grassroots organizations or social movements in Montreal. The ability to attend some evening events is important to the role.

The job posting will be open until the position is filled, but applicants are strongly advised to apply by 2pm ET on August 15th, and will ideally be available to start work in late August or early September.
