[Summer student position] Digital Engagement Producer – Rabble.ca

rabble.ca is seeking to fill the new position of Digital Engagement Producer on our team.

Publishing online-only since 2001, rabble.ca is an award-winning, daily national publication that focuses on news and opinion from Canada’s grassroots social and labour movements.

Our content is not hidden behind a paywall, and our revenue model relies upon converting readers into paying monthly members. The Digital Engagement Producer will play a crucial role in attracting new audiences, deepening our engagement with them and growing our monthly membership program.

The Digital Engagement Producer creates content for and helps manage rabble’s digital media platforms and engagement outreach. The ideal candidate must be a strong writer with excellent judgment, time management, and multitasking skills; a creative thinker with a passion for journalism; and skilled at working cross-functionally.

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop and execute digital outreach and marketing campaigns.
  • Implement and contribute to social media tactics for rabble’s engagement strategy, including managing our Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram accounts, and potentially developing new platform presences.
  • Moderate our social media platforms and act as a point-of-contact for those seeking information via email and social media direct messages.
  • Create tailored, innovative digital content for specific platforms (websites, news aggregators, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) daily and ensure that content is driving audience engagement.
  • Adapt content and engagement strategies as needed to ensure weekly and monthly engagement targets are being met.
  • Collaborate with all teams to coordinate the digital presence of rabble within brand guidelines.
  • Track and monitor content and marketing calendars for digital platforms and prioritize postings based on delivery schedules and team priorities.
  • Manage projects that have multiple stakeholders (both internal and external) and keep everyone updated on delivery deadlines.
  • Report to the audience editor and other teams on campaign efficacy, click-through rates on ads, and other analytics.
  • Produce high-quality work without daily oversight.

Required skills and experience:

  • A proven track record in social media content creation and audience engagement.
  • Detail-oriented and organized.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Current understanding of social media discoverability and engagement tactics, including hashtags, influencer outreach, and tagging.
  • Enthusiastic and passionate about building independent progressive media.
  • University or college experience in digital production, journalism, or multimedia storytelling, or equivalent experience.
  • Superior command of platform-specific digital-storytelling and multimedia-presentation techniques.
  • Ability to establish priorities and work effectively under pressure to meet tight and shifting deadlines.
  • Innovation, idea generation, and interest in learning new skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and hand off elements to other team members.
  • Solid understanding of Google Analytics and other software used to measure performance.
  • Thorough and strategic understanding of social media, particularly Facebook, Twitter, Instagram.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in video, audio, and photo editing.
  • Experience with paid promotions and sponsored content is a plus.

Terms: 20-25 hours per week for a 4 month period, with possibility of renewal. This position is tied to a grant, and you must be enrolled in post-secondary education to qualify.

Location: May be based anywhere in Canada

Rate: $20-$25 per hour based on experience
