Internship Summary
CityNews Montreal is seeking a 2nd or 3rd year Journalism or Communications students, or Grad Diploma students to intern for Winter and Summer 2024.
The successful candidate will be a dynamic person with strong writing skills, understanding local news around them, basic knowledge of television production procedures and equipment, strong social media skills as well as a genuine interest in all things Montreal.
As our intern, you will join the team who prepares and delivers Montreal’s most dynamic
nightly newscast. You’ll work alongside our talented professionals, for a hands-on experience that will enhance your studies.

Main Responsibilities
 Write scripts and research ideas;
 Book interviews;
 Assist with the research and production of topical ‘streeters’ to support current affairs

Qualifications
 Be enrolled in the 2nd year (or beyond) of an undergraduate or graduate program in
broadcasting, journalism, communications or other related fields;
 Be eligible for university credit for this internship;
 Be seeking a placement under a formal, credited internship program;
 Be available weekdays or weekends for day/evening shifts;
 Excellent command of written English and the ability to speak/read both English and French;
 Highly motived with proven multi-tasking and time management skills. Able to work in a fastpaced environment;
 Experience posting to various social media platforms; and
 Basic knowledge of video editing and TV production experience will be considered assets

CBC News is at the forefront of local digital and broadcast journalism in Montreal.

At CBC Montreal, we gather, produce and broadcast news in Quebec for CBC Radio, CBC Television and CBC.CA/Montreal.

We are currently seeking one intern for the Winter 2024 session, to work in Montreal with CBC current affairs and digital.

Internships Goals

You will have the opportunity to gain practical experience at CBC in Montreal.

You will work as a junior member of the CBC digital team for 5 weeks.You will also work as a researcher on Daybreak (3 weeks) and Let’s Go (2 weeks ). You will learn how to pitch stories, write scripts, and write for the web.

CIM Magazine Paid Editorial Internship

CIM Magazine, which covers the latest advances in ideas, trends and technology in the Canadian mining industry, is offering a 16-week paid internship opportunity for upper-year students and recent graduates. The intern will work remotely from home and have the chance to contribute to all aspects of magazine editorial, in both print and online.  

During the internship, the intern will be required to write our weekly newsletter, news articles, conduct interviews, attend regular story meetings and participate in the magazine production process (source photos, proofread the issue and other related tasks).    

This is an opportunity for students to work with a B2B National Magazine Award-winning publication, gain valuable experience in the journalism industry, expand their portfolio and develop skills through on-the-job training.

The print edition of CIM Magazine is published by the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM) eight times per year. Responsibilities

The intern will work closely with the Section Editor and have three main writing responsibilities: 

Internship requirements: 

  1. Articles for the news section of the CIM Magazine website
  2. The weekly news recap, which is posted to the CIM Magazine website and emailed to our newsletter list
  3. The front-of-book section of the magazine, which includes news, new products and a profile or analysis piece
     
  4. The intern will work 35 hours per week for 16 weeks, with the possibility of extension. Due to the remote aspect, technical requirements are a phone, internet and a computer with camera and microphone. 

All applicants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents.

Qualifications:  

  • Strong news writing, editing and proofreading experience

The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for managing all elements of volunteering at CJLO 1690AM. This involves assessing and meeting the station’s needs through the recruitment, placement and retention of volunteers.

CJLO is hiring a news director!

The News Director is responsible for managing all elements of news at CJLO 1690AM. This involves training and managing news volunteers, ensuring quality of weekly news and community calendar broadcasts, and doing original reporting as needed.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
News Reporting:
● Ensuring the quality of our daily newscasts
● Writing and editing news scripts for volunteers before newscasts are produced (and as needed)
● Finding leads for stories, accepting pitches from contributors, and keeping on top of local Montreal stories
● Producing and reporting original content and specialty broadcasts, including but not limited to election coverage, protests, and relevant university events
● Assisting full time staff with longer form content for the morning show
● Keeping regular contact with the Station Manager and Program Director regarding the news department Community Calendar:
● Writing community calendar script for volunteers
● Ensuring weekly community calendar broadcast is produced and aired by Monday afternoon
