[Paid internship] Editorial Internship with Concordia’s University Advancement

Concordia’s University Advancement seeks an intern who wishes to hone their writing and communications skills. The paid, part-time internship of 21 hours per week will allow the candidate to tell stories that matter to Concordia’s 235,000 alumni and will provide behind-the-scenes access to the world of education, fundraising and publishing.

The ideal candidate will have above average writing skills, as well as high proficiency in editing. The intern will report directly to University Advancement’s manager of publications and projects within the communications team.

The intern will research and write short features for the Alumni News web page and the Accent/Capstone e-newsletters, distributed monthly to 90,000 Concordia alumni, donors and friends of the university. The features may be repurposed for Concordia’s internal electronic media, including the weekly NOW e-newsletter for faculty and staff, the NOW student e-newsletter and the Concordia website, concordia.ca.

The intern will also write other short assignments and help with research for Concordia University Magazine. The magazine is a 64-page, full-colour publication mailed to 170,000 Concordia alumni, donors, faculty members and staff.

The intern may also assist with other editorial assignments as required, such as letter writing and social media posting.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Research information, conduct interviews and write web profiles and digital newsletters;
  • Provide editorial assistance for Concordia University Magazine;
  • Help generate content and ideas for newsletters and publications;
  • Fact check and proofread.

Requirements:

  • Completed second-year BA in journalism, communication studies or similar bachelor’s or graduate diploma levels at Concordia;
  • Excellent writing and editing skills;
  • Strong news sense and entrepreneurial spirit;
  • Thorough command of the English language;
  • Familiarity with Word and Excel;
  • Knowledge of CP Style Guide;
  • Proficiency with at least two major social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, Tik Tok);
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills; ability to multitask, complete projects and meet strict deadlines;
  • Be available to work during business hours;
  • Detail-oriented approach with ability to work quickly.

Dates: May 30 to August 15, 2022
Salary: $18/hour
Hours: 21 hours per week during regular business hours (7 hours each on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday)
