Your role CBC Quebec is looking for a self-starter who loves to tell stories and help other people tell them.As Digital Regional Lineup Editor in charge of content diversification, you will focus on increasing the range of storytelling rooted in the community on all of CBC’s digital platforms including cbc.ca and social media. This includes commissioning, coordinating, and copy editing first person and op-ed contributions and news and feature stories from our own journalists as well. You will also transform current affairs radio stories into digital works. You must be an advocate for our online and digital platforms in the newsroom and with our current affairs teams, and have a keen interest in audience and community engagement. You bring to the role experience and knowledge of digital news, visual storytelling, social media strategies, copy editing, metrics, and new story treatments. You will work closely with our journalists and producers in TV and radio, and play a key role in the digital rollout of editorial projects including community initiatives. You will track our results and share our daily successes with the CBC team.For reference purposes, this position is from 8-4 pm but may be modified and is dependent on production needs.Tasks:

  • Line-up and coordinate digital content for short term and long term stories and projects.
  • Copy edit and package digital content.
  • Attend story meetings for daily and special-event coverage. Suggest story ideas and discuss story angles with your colleagues.
  • Assign writers, both from inside CBC and from the community.
  • Vet reporters’ work prior to publishing on digital platforms and social media. Request changes, if – necessary.
  • Determine story angles. Write copy, headlines and intros in the appropriate style. Prepare live reports from reporters in the field.
  • Pitch original story ideas, and angles.
  • Collaborate on the creation of social media content.
  • Do interviews and write stories.
  • Maintain a network of contacts.
  • Monitor and share metrics to ensure content is aligned with CBC strategic and community goals.
  • Completing contracts and related administration.

Job requirements:Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent
  • Five (5) years’ journalism experience or the equivalent

Skills:

  • Extensive general knowledge.
  • In-depth knowledge of current events and news across the province.
  • Connection to and understanding of Quebec’s diverse and underrepresented communities.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and deadlines, reacting quickly to changing priorities and breaking news.
  • Deep desire to make the digital content the best in the market.
  • Strong copy-editing.
  • Excellent interviewing and writing.
  • Thorough knowledge of logistics of an integrated, mobile-first newsroom.
  • Strong knowledge of digital treatments, visual storytelling, metrics and engagement strategies.
  • A strong desire to live and promote the values of diversity and an inclusive and respectful work culture.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the other official language (French).
  • Knowledge of CBC/Radio-Canada’s Journalistic Standards and Practices.
  • Use of production programs such as Polopoly, Expression Engine, MPX, and Photoshop.
  • Use of social platforms and content schedulers. 
  • Basic video editing.
  • Experience in radio and television platforms.
  • Strong leadership skills.
