Political Matters Journalism Internship Program

The Political Matters Journalism Internship Program will once again provide two student journalists with an opportunity to hone their political reporting skills on Parliament Hill over the coming summer.

The successful candidates will be introduced to the exciting world of political journalism in Ottawa.

The host news organizations will be confirmed shortly, but senior journalists will mentor aspiring political journalists and work with them to develop the skills to pursue a career in Canadian media.

The interns will receive a $10,000 honorarium from Political Matters for their participation in the 13-week program.

Initial funding for the program, launched in September 2018, came from an event at the Black Sheep Inn in Wakefield, Quebec.  The fundraiser was supported by many organizations and individuals with a passion for journalism, politics and political journalism, who believe in the importance of journalism to Canada’s political life.

The invitation to apply is extended to students enrolled in journalism programs at Canadian universities, colleges and polytechnical institutes, students involved in campus media, and Canadian citizens enrolled in journalism programs at universities abroad.

Applications are to be submitted by March 27, 2020.
