Job description
Nunatsiaq News is looking for a full-time reporter who will be based in Iqaluit as one of two permanent reporters in the Iqaluit office. The essence of the job involves being a skillful interviewer with strong writing and reporting skills, who pays close attention to detail and deadlines. The position involves being capable of working in a fast-paced multi-media environment of print, web and social media, and being self-reliant and adaptable.

Reporting to the Managing Editor, you would:
Write between five and seven news stories per week, news briefs as required and at least one feature every two weeks.
File at least one story per day for
Provide two standalone photos for publication each week.
Develop sources, generate new story ideas and participate in story meetings.
Assist in broadening the editorial content of Nunatsiaq News to encourage a greater readership.
Travel to Nunavut and Nunavik communities to report on special events as required.
Attend after-hours meetings and events as required.
Ensure that stories are filed on deadline and, wherever possible, are accompanied by a photo.
Assist with proofreading dummy newspaper pages.
Do other related duties as assigned by the editors.
You have a journalism degree/diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
You have strong interviewing, writing and reporting skills.
You are organized and have a proven track record of meeting deadlines and breaking your own stories.
You can work independently, but also work well with others as part of a team.
You have a driver’s licence.

Experience in the following areas would definitely be assets:
Digital photography
Web-based content management systems
