Position 1: Our Canada (OC)
Job Description
The Our Canada editorial intern must be a skilled writer/editor who enjoys interacting with
everyday people from different walks of life, age groups and cultural backgrounds.
Reporting to the Editor in Chief, the OC editorial intern will work on contributor stories
for publication in upcoming issues; primary tasks will or may include making initial
contact with story contributors; fact-checking; obtaining accompanying photography and
added details as necessary; updating/revising text in collaboration with the writer;
developing page layouts in collaboration with the art team; copy editing and proofreading.
Taking part in the OC Facebook community via a weekly post is an optional but fun part of
the OC brand-building experience, as is having one of the selected intern’s own stories
appear in an upcoming issue.

Wage
$6,500 stipend
Qualifications
• Candidates must be enrolled in the Department of Journalism at Concordia University,
and a current student during the summer of 2021.
**Note: Students finishing their last 15 credits this term (Jan – Apr 2021) and graduating
are not eligible to apply.
• Demonstrated skills in writing, copyediting and fact-checking
• Knowledge of InDesign, basics of Photoshop
• Excellent people skills
• A knack for good storytelling
• Ideally, an interest in Canadian history, cultures, geography and current events
• Knowledge of Canadian Press Style
Position 2: Reader’s Digest (Rd)
Job Description
The Reader’s Digest editorial intern must be a skilled writer and editor with knowledge of
SEO. Reporting to the associate editor, the editorial intern will craft some magazine
content (for example: letters, jokes, contributors pages, etc.), work with editors to learn
fact-checking skills, adapt magazine content for the website, as well as pitch and write
short articles and source suitable art to accompany editorial (photos, illustrations). In
addition to such daily responsibilities, the editorial intern will also have the opportunity to
participate in editorial workshops, attend story meetings, and work closely with Reader’s
Digest editors.

Qualifications
• Candidates must be enrolled in the Department of Journalism at Concordia University,
and a current student during the summer of 2021.

• Demonstrated expertise in writing and developing quality print and digital content
• Familiar working with a CMS (Content Management System), preferably WordPress
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Ability to work under tight deadlines
• Knowledge of Photoshop and InDesign
• Knowledge of SEO
• Knowledge of Canadian Press Style
• Capacity for strategic thinking and content planning
