Description:
This internship will bring a journalist to The Globe and Mail to pursue a six-month long investigative journalism project under the guidance of editors and senior reporters.

The candidate will work with a senior team at The Globe and Mail in Toronto on an on-going investigation focussed on public accountability, corporate responsibility and government funding.

The intern duties include:
• reporting and writing
research,
• filing FOI requests
• taking photographs
• shooting and editing video
• and designing on multiple platforms.

The candidate will receive a stipend of $750/week for a six-month internship.

Purpose:
The Globe and Mail will provide talented, young journalists with resources and mentorship to fortify their skills and contribute to an important story in the public interest.

The goal of the program is to provide an opportunity for the intern to stretch his or her investigative journalism skills with the help of some of the country’s best reporters and editors.

Position Requirements:
The candidates should:
• be emerging journalists who want to immerse themselves in an investigative reporting environment.
• be a Canadian journalist early in his or her career (one to five years experience).
• have completed at least one professional news media job or internship at a daily news organization.

CJF Innovation Award

The CJF Journalism award recognizes innovations that have a demonstrated impact in advancing the quality of journalism.
Innovation can come in a wide range of fields, including (but not restricted to):

  • new formats for audiences;
  • different operating procedures within a newsroom;
  • new storytelling techniques;
  • a new product produced by the newsroom;
  • the design and/or introduction of new technology;
  • distinctive reporting strategies and techniques;
  • new ways of engagement with audiences;
  • involvement of the community in the news process; and
  • partnerships or team approaches to reporting and producing stories.

It is up to individual applicants to identify and explain the innovation being nominated.

While it could have taken more than a year from concept to implementation, the impact of the innovation must have occurred in 2016.

The winning news organization will receive a cash prize of $10,000,

Photojournalism Internship

There are 3 different levels of photojournalism, which essentially cover from basic learning to professional journalism and photojournalism.

1. Photojournalism with Basic training:
Basic training is provided for the ones who look forward to starting their career in this eccentric field of Photojournalism or Photography. The training fundamentally includes tips on handling a DSLR camera and its features such as shutter speed, aperture, ISO focusing, depth of field etc.
After a weeklong basic training, students will be taken to the field for photography practice. Interns participate to cultural and landscape tours, and night and news photography practice. Intern/volunteers will have the opportunity to take pictures of rallies, sit-in programs, and political demonstrations

 2. Freelance Photojournalism
One to five month ‘Intensive Freelance Photojournalism Internship’ provides interested students or volunteers an opportunity to explore Nepal’s great culture, beauty and & work with local people and media outlets.
In this program experienced photojournalists coordinate, make regular assignments, create work plans and implement them in developing photo stories, photo documentaries, photo essays and photo features.

 3. Photojournalism with local media:
Nepali media are still in rave need of experienced photojournalists. Internship Nepal has since forever been known for having offered the best placements for skilled and experienced photojournalists and photographers who wish to utilize their time volunteering in Nepali media. Placements are arranged in several renowned National Daily News Papers, online news portals and magazines.  

At the end of this program, the students will surely have learned what it takes to be a skilled photojournalist.

The internship  will enable the students to explore, learn and accomplish with a team of experienced researchers and journalists.
