The CJF Journalism award recognizes innovations that have a demonstrated impact in advancing the quality of journalism.
Innovation can come in a wide range of fields, including (but not restricted to):

  • new formats for audiences;
  • different operating procedures within a newsroom;
  • new storytelling techniques;
  • a new product produced by the newsroom;
  • the design and/or introduction of new technology;
  • distinctive reporting strategies and techniques;
  • new ways of engagement with audiences;
  • involvement of the community in the news process; and
  • partnerships or team approaches to reporting and producing stories.

It is up to individual applicants to identify and explain the innovation being nominated.

While it could have taken more than a year from concept to implementation, the impact of the innovation must have occurred in 2016.

The winning news organization will receive a cash prize of $10,000,

Writing/editing internship

Espresso communication is looking for a writer/web editor to help provide content for its client. The intern will have the opportunity to write on and/or edit different topics, including finance, lifestyle, entertainment, auto, news, travel, health and sports.

The intern will:
• suggest article ideas
• participate to the editorial meetings
• and help with the editorial calendar.

The intern will work extensively with WordPress and will have to format images.
He/she will learn about SEO techniques, image search and rights, and will work under some pressure, as we have to hand in articles at a more or less specific date.

The goal is to produce the most clickable articles possible while still remaining truthful.

Position Requirements:
Applicants should have:
• Some experience with web editing, preferably with WordPress.
• Great language skills, as part of the internship includes reviewing others’ articles and correcting mistakes.
• Some experience with writing is also required.

Bilingualism (French and English) is an asset.
