Description:
The Yukon Human Rights Commission is a statutory human rights agency whose the mission is to promote equality and diversity through research, education, and enforcement of the Yukon Human Rights Act. Public education in the area of human rights is a core part of their mandate as a statutory human rights agency.

The intern will work with the Yukon Human Rights Commission on a variety of public legal education and research projects in the area of human rights.
This will include a major in-depth research project, as well as shorter projects like opinion editorials, fact sheets, press releases, web content, systemic discrimination research, and other forms of research and writing in the area of public education about human rights in Yukon.

Purpose:
Journalists for Human Rights (JHR) is coordinating an internship opportunity at the Yukon Human Rights Commission for an emerging Indigenous reporter through its Indigenous Reporters Program.

Position Requirements:
The ideal candidate is an energetic, independent worker and critical thinker who is passionate about human rights, diversity, and inclusion. Expect to work collaboratively, to learn about human rights law, and to connect directly with the public in a meaningful way about human rights issues. Skills in public speaking, research and writing are essential. Additional skills in digital media (photography and film production/editing), social media, are considered an asset but not essential.

Applicants will identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis or Inuit).

Copy/Research Internship

Copy/research interns work closely with the copy department to fact-check the magazine. Their tasks include:

• primary research (25%)

Interns are encouraged to pitch story ideas and may write short articles and sidebars for the magazine and website.

Three to five days a week over a four-month period.
Internship terms start in January, May and September.

Position Requirements:
The successful candidate is a wordsmith who loves to get things just right, is organized and meticulous and has excellent oral and written communication skills. Previous fact-checking experience is an asset.

Editorial Internship

Their responsibilities include:

• writing short articles and sidebars for print and web (30%)
• monitoring and scheduling Canadian Living’s social media posts (20%)
• and other general editorial tasks (20%), including transcribing, fact-checking and primary research.

Three to five days a week over a four-month period.

Purpose:
Editorial interns work closely with editors to learn the basics of cross-platform magazine publishing.

Position Requirements:
The successful candidate works well with others, has a keen interest in magazine journalism, always keep a positive attitude and is meticulous. A familiarity with content and social media management platforms, including WordPress and Hootsuite, is a definite asset.

Home internship—Ongoing

Journalism and Multimedia Internship

Description:
The Review is an award-winning weekly community newspaper located in Vankleek Hill, Ontario. Vankleek Hill is located halfway between Montreal and Ottawa, about one hour’s drive from both cities.

The intern will write, cover news, shoot videos, record audio interviews, and be part of the community radio station and online initiatives.

The tasks will consist in:
• Gather story ideas and write/produce news stories
• Work with staff to generate copy for the new website, including multi-media items and news updates.
• Fact check, proofread, format, and edit as necessary.
• Create videos and other multimedia communications to supplement news stories, cover music and the arts
• Perform related duties as required

Purpose:
The Review is looking for an exchange. Intern will share ideas and new skills. In return, journalists at The Review will provide established journalism skills, multimedia skills, and sound editing skills.

An intern at The Review is a chance to meet people and explore the student’s creativity as the team will give the freedom to float some new ideas in an open work environment.

• Bilingualism is a must.

 Looking for innovative and enthusiastic individuals. Interns will assist the production crew of The Vocalist Magazine PRESENTS…, The MAVENS and more.

Ideal candidate must have experience working with Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premiere, ability to deliver videos with cuts, graphics, sound and other elements that convey a quality production value and a level of technical sophistication and a knowledge of digital videography and photography cameras and equipment.

The position requires a minimum of 20 hours per week.
