Description:
CBC Montreal has an incredible opportunity to offer to a student who is graduating from the undergraduate program or diploma program in journalism. The intern will work for a summer in a dynamic newsroom that covers local news online, on television and on radio.

 The successful candidate will:
• Check and follow up on story leads.
• Support the web desk by researching and fact-checking stories.
• In breaking news situations, pull in the latest info for the web desk and our social media.
Attend production meetings. Pitch story ideas/angles/digital treatment and possible guests.
• Research, gather, assess and check information on stories covered. Retrieve audio and visual clips and images as required.
• Recommend and contact interviewees. Conduct pre-interviews. Suggest interview questions and approaches.
• Prepare and present research.  Write copy for the host.
• Set up shoots and interviews for journalists.
• Support guests who come to CBC with parking, pick-up, arrival times, etc.
• Record radio content and do rough editing.
• As needed, gather and sort comments from the public on line or on the street.
• Shot list tape and edit raw video.
• Photoshop pictures and create a photo gallery
• Be prepared to train to write stories for online and train as a reporter

Position Requirements:
The applicant should be a graduating Concordia journalism student (from the undergraduate program or diploma program).

• Curate and edit the content of your division
• Seek out, select, and edit pieces for publication
• Publish at least two pieces each calendar month

Purpose:
The Division Editor is responsible for the high quality of their division’s content and editing.

Position Requirements:
Applicants need to:
• have an excellent command of English using U.S. spelling
• be enthusiastic
• should have some knowledge of the religion they want to focus on
• have a strong editing ability

The Division Editor’s knowledge of the religion may come from any of a variety of sources, e.g., academic study, prior journalistic coverage, etc.

Emerging Indigenous Reporter Internship

The Yukon Human Rights Commission is a statutory human rights agency whose the mission is to promote equality and diversity through research, education, and enforcement of the Yukon Human Rights Act. Public education in the area of human rights is a core part of their mandate as a statutory human rights agency.

The intern will work with the Yukon Human Rights Commission on a variety of public legal education and research projects in the area of human rights.
This will include a major in-depth research project, as well as shorter projects like opinion editorials, fact sheets, press releases, web content, systemic discrimination research, and other forms of research and writing in the area of public education about human rights in Yukon.

Purpose:
Journalists for Human Rights (JHR) is coordinating an internship opportunity at the Yukon Human Rights Commission for an emerging Indigenous reporter through its Indigenous Reporters Program.

Position Requirements:
The ideal candidate is an energetic, independent worker and critical thinker who is passionate about human rights, diversity, and inclusion. Expect to work collaboratively, to learn about human rights law, and to connect directly with the public in a meaningful way about human rights issues. Skills in public speaking, research and writing are essential. Additional skills in digital media (photography and film production/editing), social media, are considered an asset but not essential.

Applicants will identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis or Inuit).
