WRITING INTERN

Our Writing Intern will be instrumental in assisting with the interview process of our subjects and will help capture the essence of our characters in writing.

The selected intern will gain experience in:

• Uncovering new story ideas
• Preparing for interviews through careful research and planning
• Conducting in-depth interviews in a way that allows the interviewee to feel comfortable and that establishes a sense of trust
• Producing compelling written content (bilingualism a plus)
• Writing clearly and concisely

CREATIVE COMMUNICATIONS & OUTREACH INTERN

We are looking for a dynamic and hardworking Creative Communications & Outreach Intern to join our team to help build brand awareness and produce communications materials that accurately reflect our marketing strategy.

The selected intern will gain experience in:

• Thinking creatively to bring innovation to our marketing and branding strategy
• Creating clear and catchy communications materials that will generate interest in Curiosity Craves
• Managing and maintaining all social media platforms and communication
• Liaising with photographers, videographers and editors to create powerful content that will be featured online to promote the website
• Developing and growing existing newsletter database by creating customized materials tailored to specific audiences
• Expanding Curiosity Craves’ digital reach by contacting local media and other online platforms
• Fostering relationships with community organizations, local businesses and key individuals to increase the reach of Curiosity Craves

VIDEO EDITING INTERN

We are looking for a creative and dedicated Assistant Video Editing Intern who can help us edit the story of a person, culture or business and present it in a compelling way.

The selected intern will gain experience in:

• Telling a story creatively and professionally through video editing
• Editing with precision using Premiere Pro CC
• Brainstorming with the Assistant Creative Director how to approach the editing of the story
• Presenting their edited videos to the Assistant Creative Director for feedback and incorporating edits suggested by the Assistant Creative Director
• Performing basic colour correction and sound editing

*We require that the intern own his or her own laptop or computer. Having Premiere Pro or Final Cut 7 would be a bonus.

SALES & ADVERTISING INTERN

The Sales & Advertising Intern will work directly with the CEO and Lead
Project Manager to seek out new partners and advertisers and build long-lasting relationships with them.

The selected intern will gain experience in:

• Thinking creatively to bring innovative advertising ideas to the table
• Understanding the digital media industry
• Presenting an idea clearly, concisely and charismatically
• Managing interpersonal relationships with new and existing partners
• Brainstorming and teamwork
• Following through on objectives with determination

// Eligibility Criteria

Our eligibility criteria for our internship program is as follows:

• The duration of the internship is typically 3 months and we request 15 internship hours per week.
• Students in their third or fourth year of studies are preferred, though we will also consider second-year students.
• The intern must be eligible to work in Canada at the time of their application and throughout the duration of the internship. All Curiosity Craves interns will be considered for prospective job openings.

Emerging Indigenous Reporter Internship

Journalists for Human Rights (JHR) is coordinating a paid internship opportunity, at Aboriginal Peoples Television Network (APTN), for emerging Indigenous reporters through its Indigenous Reporters Program.

Internship Opportunity: 1 position at APTN as a Television Technician (junior) OR Researcher/Writer (trainee)

Location: APTN offices in Winnipeg, Manitoba

Deadline to apply: Tuesday, September 8, 2015

Start Date: Tuesday, October 13, 2015

Duration: 3 months

Specific Responsibilities:

The Television Technician (junior) (APTN) works under the supervision of the Director or Producer and provides support to the Studio Crew in the day-to-day production of APTN News and Current Affairs Programming while adhering to the highest journalistic standards, procedures and practices. Key responsibilities include working as a teleprompter, electronic graphics, switcher, audio, AD, studio camera operator, floor director, and editor. Additionally, the intern will be responsible for prepping the studio prior to production, which includes lighting, camera set-up and striking the set following production.

The Researcher/Writer (trainee) (APTN) works under the direction of the Assignment Editor and gathers content for News and Current Affairs while adhering to the highest journalistic standards, procedures and practices. Key responsibilities include searching for stories; researching, developing ideas using leads/tips; pitching story ideas; interviewing sources, preparing story outlines, reviewing archives; assisting with the preparation of published stories, etc.

Journalist for Human Rights (JHR) is Canada’s leading media development organization. Through skills training and mentorship, JHR empowers journalists to report ethically and effectively on local human rights issues that would otherwise be ignored and unaddressed. Since 2002, JHR has trained over 12,500 journalists in 21 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East.

In 2013, JHR launched its first project in Canada, The Northern Ontario Initiative. The project worked in remote Indigenous reserve communities across Ontario training citizens to report on, and from, their own communities. It also connected them to interested editors and news directors and taught them how to sell their freelance work to mainstream media outlets. The objective of this project was to build relationships between Indigenous communities and media outlets to create greater awareness of Indigenous culture, peoples and issues amongst non-Indigenous Canadians by strengthening Indigenous voices in Canadian media.

Responsibilities and Functions
Write article and conduct interviews for The Vocalist Magazine.

Editorial Internship at enRoute magazine

Do you have a passion for lifestyle journalism? We’re looking for a super-creative, magazine-obsessed, travel-savvy intern to join enRoute’s award-winning team three days per week from September 2 to December 21, 2015. Working in our Montreal offices, the successful candidate will get an insider’s look at how a monthly travel-lifestyle magazine is put together. The position consists mainly of research and administrative tasks, but as a key member of our team you will also attend editorial meetings and, depending on skill level and interest, may also do some writing.

Job Objectives
– Fact check stories and research articles in development. Interns with advanced writing skills may be assigned short articles for our front-of-book section (Passport) and for the features well.
– Gain a comprehensive understanding of how to take a story from concept to completion, from researching and pitching story ideas to editing work for the magazine.
– Provide support for the editorial team, attend weekly editorial meetings and assist with editorial awards submissions and filing press releases.

Federal Election Operator for the Media Consortium

Le Consortium des médias pour les élections canadiennes (CMEC) fournit des données brutes aux différents radiodiffuseurs canadiens le soir des élections.

The Canadian Media Elections Consortium (CMEC) provides raw data to the different Canadian broadcasters on election night.
CMEC will be hiring 50 bilingual operators to staff their Results Centre for the upcoming Federal election.
CMEC will be setting up at the CBC-SRC facilities in Montreal, 1400 Réné-Lévesque blvd East in Montreal.

TASK: telephone operators to input data from the various electoral districts.
WHEN: Friday, October 16th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm for a training session and Monday October 19th from 6pm to possibly midnight or later.
