Our editorial department is currently seeking Multi-Media Producers who possesses unique capabilities to collaborate with reporters, editors and developers to produce compelling journalistic packages for multiple platforms. You are expected to create, post and update digital content tailored to specific platforms including data visualizations, timelines, searchable databases, maps, and other interactive graphics, as well as handle text, photos and to act and perform on and/or off camera to director interviews. You will vigorously pursue all daily and longer term reporting assignments received from Supervising Editor (s), by gathering content, analyzing, verifying and creating clear, concise, user-friendly text, images, graphics and video as per assignments.

You will be required to monitor social media and actively use social media platforms for content creation, promotion and audience engagement. Regular engagement in community in person and through comments, email, blogs, Twitter and other social media is required.

You possess the following qualifications:
• Post-secondary journalism accreditation or equivalent experience
• Demonstrated experience creating interactive maps, charts, timelines and other vizualizations.
• Advanced ability with Excel, Access, mapping software and Google’s data tools.
• Experience with web-scraping and data-visualization tools.
• Familiarity with web development languages such as HTML, HTML5, XML, CSS, Javascript.
• Excellent research, critical-thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency with Twitter, Facebook, Reddit, Tumblr and other social media platforms.
• Interpersonal and communication skills; ability to self-direct and work as part of a team.
• Able to work a variety of shifts, including evenings, nights and weekends — under deadline pressure.
• Must understand importance of customer service and project a professional public image.
• Valid Driver’s license and passport
• Passionate about journalism, storytelling, data, and design.

Concordia Advancement Communcations writer

Do you have a flair for reporting good stories?

Concordia’s Advancement and Alumni Relations seeks an intern who wishes to hone his or her writing and communications skills. The paid internship will allow the candidate to tell stories that matter to peers and Concordia alumni and allow behind-the-scenes access to the world of education, fundraising and publishing.

The ideal candidate will have excellent writing and editing skills. The intern will report to Advancement and Alumni Relations’ managing editor.

The intern will research and write short features for the Accent e-newsletter, distributed monthly to 70,000 Concordia alumni, donors and friends of the university. The features may be repurposed for Concordia’s internal electronic media, including the weekly NOW e-newsletter for faculty and staff, the NOW student e-newsletter and the Concordia website, concordia.ca.

The incumbent will also research, edit and write assignments for of Concordia University Magazine. The magazine is a 64-page, full-colour, glossy publication that is mailed to 130,000 Concordia alumni, donors, faculty members and staff.

Primary responsibilities:
• Research information, conduct interviews and write shorter articles
• Help edit articles
• Help organize photo shoots
• Fact check

Requirements:
• Completed second-year BA in Journalism, Communication Studies or similar bachelor’s or graduate diploma levels at Concordia
• Excellent writing and editing skills
• Strong news sense and entrepreneurial spirit
• Thorough command of the English language
• Familiarity with Word and Excel
• Social media awareness is a plus
• Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills; ability to multitask, complete projects and meet strict deadlines
• Be available to work during business hours at Concordia’s Advancement and Alumni Relations Office at FB 520, 1250 Guy St.

Salary: $15/hr.
Hours: 10-15 hrs./wk., Monday to Friday

Reporter (bilingual)

Reporting to the editor of the Compagnie d’édition André Paquette, publisher of six newspapers in Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec, the selected candidate will be responsible for covering community news as well as writing in-depth stories on specific issues. The selected candidate is resourceful, outgoing, people-oriented and also possesses excellent public-relations skills. He or she is a quick learner, capable of writing well in both French and English, for the newspaper and the company’s website. Additionally, the selected candidate will also be expected to shoot photos and videos as well as doing newspaper layout.

Position is for one of the company’s newspapers in Eastern Ontario.
