Description:
The Toronto Star is looking for new journalists for our Radio Room internship. The Star hires current post-secondary students to staff its radio room.

Radio Room reporters make regular checks with police, fire and paramedics and monitor social media and other sources for breaking news. They provide quick tips to the newsroom and sometimes do original reporting for all the Star’s platforms.
The work environment is often hectic, so successful candidates must be calm, well-organized and able to juggle several tasks at once. Radio Roomers must be able to persuade sometimes reluctant officials to talk and be prepared to interview victims and family members touched by crime or accidents.
Experience in a daily news environment is a strong asset.
The Radio Room is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week by post-secondary students working eight-hour shifts. Several students are hired in late summer to work part-time during the school year; a second group of students is hired to work through the summer months.

The Toronto Star is looking for early-career journalists for our one-year reporting internship.

Successful candidates will work on the breaking news desk, where they will work on a variety of stories. Journalists must be able to shoot photos and should have multimedia skills, and story pitches are encouraged by editors.
This internship is open to college- and university-level students or fewer than five years removed from graduation who have never held a full-time, permanent staff position at a company that publishes news daily.

Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and Concordia University Journalism Internship

CBC News is at the forefront of local digital and broadcast journalism in Montreal.
At CBC Montreal, we gather, produce and broadcast news in Quebec for CBC Radio, CBC Television and CBC.CA/Montreal.

We are currently seeking two interns: One for the Fall 2016 session, and one for the Winter 2017 session, to work in Montreal with CBC News.

Internships Goals

Each intern will be given the opportunity to gain practical experience at CBC News in Montreal.
Specifically, each intern will work as a junior member of the CBC News desk team and will learn to gather information, fact check, pitch stories and take part in the production of news.

Internship Application Process

• Letter of intent from the student to describe why they wish to secure the position and how they will benefit from the experience;

• Concordia University transcript (MyConcordia portal print out is acceptable);

• Letter of endorsement from Concordia University faculty member.

Application Deadline: September 11 (at midnight)

• This internship is offered under the JOUR 450-Internship/Independent Study course, for a total of three credits. Students must obtain departmental approval to enroll in this program.

Requirements

• 160 hours of unpaid service (no salary, stipends or other such remuneration) or approx 15 hours per week for 11 to 12 weeks in CBC News Montreal.

• Note – Students undertaking these internships are not excused from classes or other course
