This new web magazine intends to give a voice to refugees and people in exile.

The idea is to use text, radio, videos, drawings and so on to tell stories about exile. Based in Montreal and Marseille, we are also developing partnerships in England, Germany, Belgium, South Africa, and Indonesia. So it is really a transnational project.

In order to produce great content and beautiful stories, we ask volunteer journalists,
video-reporters, photographers, to help refugees to tell their stories. It could be a great opportunity for journalism students to gain experience and work on a project that has a positive social impact.

CJF Innovation Award

The CJF Journalism award recognizes innovations that have a demonstrated impact in advancing the quality of journalism.
Innovation can come in a wide range of fields, including (but not restricted to):

  • new formats for audiences;
  • different operating procedures within a newsroom;
  • new storytelling techniques;
  • a new product produced by the newsroom;
  • the design and/or introduction of new technology;
  • distinctive reporting strategies and techniques;
  • new ways of engagement with audiences;
  • involvement of the community in the news process; and
  • partnerships or team approaches to reporting and producing stories.

It is up to individual applicants to identify and explain the innovation being nominated.

While it could have taken more than a year from concept to implementation, the impact of the innovation must have occurred in 2016.

The winning news organization will receive a cash prize of $10,000,

Writer/ Videographer

Lucie Lacava, Design Consultant at Lacava Design Inc. is looking for a journalism student(s) willing to participate in a digital/design research project.
The student is invited to join a team, and participate in brainstorming sessions every Friday until the end of January. The team will address the future of digital news, and will collaborate on a project to create new visual models for digital news publications.

The student’s responsibilities will consist on:
• contributing story ideas
• and help the team create a digital prototype.

Purpose:
At the Poynter Institute in January 2017, Lucie Lacava will present innovative models that offer design solutions for how to present news and information via digital platforms. The candidate will join the team and participate in this three month project.

Position Requirements:
The ideal candidate will be a third year journalism student, with a keen interest in digital media, Millennial, and Generation Z. He/She will possess most of the following skills: write stories, edit headlines, shoot video, write code.

Tamtams.ca is a website dedicated to the youth and urban culture of Montreal and serves as a platform for local creatives to connect and share their work.

more content creators.
Tamtams would be communicating article proposals to the students and they would be going out and executing them accordingly.

Position Requirements:

Emerging Indigenous Reporter Internship

Description:
The Yukon Human Rights Commission is a statutory human rights agency whose the mission is to promote equality and diversity through research, education, and enforcement of the Yukon Human Rights Act. Public education in the area of human rights is a core part of their mandate as a statutory human rights agency.

The intern will work with the Yukon Human Rights Commission on a variety of public legal education and research projects in the area of human rights.
This will include a major in-depth research project, as well as shorter projects like opinion editorials, fact sheets, press releases, web content, systemic discrimination research, and other forms of research and writing in the area of public education about human rights in Yukon.

Purpose:
Journalists for Human Rights (JHR) is coordinating an internship opportunity at the Yukon Human Rights Commission for an emerging Indigenous reporter through its Indigenous Reporters Program.

Position Requirements:
The ideal candidate is an energetic, independent worker and critical thinker who is passionate about human rights, diversity, and inclusion. Expect to work collaboratively, to learn about human rights law, and to connect directly with the public in a meaningful way about human rights issues. Skills in public speaking, research and writing are essential. Additional skills in digital media (photography and film production/editing), social media, are considered an asset but not essential.

Applicants will identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis or Inuit).
